Fossil originated in 1984 as a watch retailer and in the early 1990’s, expanded its core business, launching a line of accessory products including handbags, belts, small leather goods and sunglasses under the Fossil and Relic brands. Fossil now distributes and sells extensive lines of these products to department stores and specialty retail stores in over 90 countries around the world. In total, there are 140 Fossil owned stores across the world, predominantly in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. Fossil began opening a group of outlet stores nationwide in 1996 creating its own discontinued distribution channel.
